Jaw and TMJJaw and TMJ

Why the jaw holds so much tension

The jaw joint (TMJ) is one of the most used joints in the body and is closely linked to the neck and skull. Stress, clenching and posture can leave it tight, tender or clicking. Gentle osteopathy aims to release this tension and support smoother, more comfortable movement.

Dr Boudet's gentle approach

After understanding your history and daily habits, Dr Boudet works softly on the jaw, cheek and temple muscles and on the neck, using cranial and cranio-sacral techniques. Nothing is forced. He may also share simple self-care to help you between visits.

  • Gentle release of jaw and facial muscles
  • Attention to the neck and skull base
  • Easy self-care suggestions

Working alongside your dentist

Jaw issues often involve dental factors such as bite or grinding. Osteopathy has its own reading of the body; it works in dialogue with dental assessment. If you wear a night guard or are under dental care, Dr Boudet works gently on the tension involved, in coordination with your dental practitioner.

Frequently asked questions

Jaw and TMJ

Can osteopathy fix my TMJ?

Osteopathy does not cure TMJ disorders and cannot guarantee a result. It aims to ease muscular and joint tension around the jaw, cheek and neck, which many people find helps their jaw feel looser and more comfortable in daily life.

Will you work inside my mouth?

Only if appropriate and always with your clear consent. Much can be done gently on the outside, on the jaw, face and neck. Dr Boudet explains each step, and you remain comfortable and in control throughout the session.

Is it safe if my jaw clicks or locks?

Gentle osteopathy is generally well tolerated, but a jaw that locks or is very painful should also be assessed by a dentist or doctor. Dr Boudet works within comfortable limits and refers on when a medical or dental opinion is needed.

Can it help with grinding at night?

It may ease the muscle tension linked to clenching and grinding, which some people find helpful. It has its own field of action, and it sits naturally alongside dental care such as a night guard, each with its own role.
